Camera bug when reconnecting to the server

Hi Aslain,

 

You probably are aware about the "camera bug", which is quite common among the players. One enters a battle, he can move his ship, but the camera is "fixed" , it doesn't move with the ship, or rotating around it.

 

Well, I noticed that to me this it's happening ONLY after I leave my computer unattended for a longer time, with the game open. After a while, I get disconnected from the server "due to a long period of inactivity" or something like this. Then I have a button to (Re) Connect. If I do that, the first battle I enter, I get the camera bug - I can move my ship, but the camera is not following it.

 

I can reproduce this anytime.

 

If I don't reconnect directly, and instead, I force-close my game from Task Manager, then I launch it again normally, the bug does not appear!

 

Now, I was explaining this to someone on Reddit, and another guy said it's because of the mods. I wasn't too convinced, so last night I tested.

Actually what I did, I launched the game in vanilla mode (WITHOUT mods) and left it open. After a while I was disconnected, as expected... then I reconnected directly (without force-closing the game). Then I entered a battle and  - to my surprise - the bug didn't appear!!! The camera was moving normally, following my ship.

 

Conclusion is, one of the mods I use, is actually causing that bug. Unfortunately, I can't tell exactly which one, but at least the first step in identifying the issue, has been made. Hope you can take it further.

Interesting....

Are you leaving the game AFK in the port, or in a battle?

How long do you need to be AFK before the game disconnects you??
Does the camera bug happen in every battle after reconnecting, or just the first one?
Have you noticed if the bug happens only in certain battle types (Random, Co-op etc) or always?

1. In port.

2. Can't tell exactly, as I'm not in front of the pc when it happens. If I'd be to estimate, I'd say about half hour.

3. I wandered same thing, but never had the chance to test it, because when I see my camera is not moving, I close the game, without exiting the battle, then I restart and it takes me back into the battle. So I never fought an entire battle with the bug active.  So it's first battle, and then God knows... but I might try to test it. 🙂

4. I play Randoms and Ranked rather exclusively. Didn't keep track if happened for both, but I would say YES. The other modes I play too little, I really don't remember.  I'd try right now with Brawl and come back to you.

If it's 1h then I will have trouble to check it, I don't have that much time to waste staring at busy PC with a game in background. Was your game client minimalized or as active window (screen) durring this?

 

As for the bug yeah I experienced it, but it's very rare, and I don't think I was leaving my game for this long. So maybe there are other ways to trigger it.

 

The culprint? No clue, impossible to guess. Can be game bug as well, that is affecting some mods.

Other ways to trigger? Just cut internet connection. I just did it, and this is what it came up with:

 

I entered Perilous Route, so I won't bother so many teammates by being afk, and also check if it happens in other modes other than Randoms and Ranked. So yes, it does.

 

Bug happened as expected. I didn't close the game, just let it play, I could maneuver my ship (Zieten) but could only see it on the minimap. I could use heals and switch from guns to torps and back... just couldn't fire them as they were probably aiming in another direction.

 

Battle finished, and I could then visualize ALL the game stats  (Personal score, Team score, Detailed Report, Credits..) so everything seemed back to normal.... and then I clicked "Back to Port" button. That's when everything game related had frozen on the screen (on the Victory/Defeat screen, but this time I couldn't move through reports) and I HAD to force close the game from Task manager.

Being somehow masochistic, I tried again, this time pressing the "Battle on!" button after the battle, same result. Everything froze, so there is no next battle to check if the bug comes only in the first one.

...but as I left it frozen, I noticed after some time (like a battle long) that I was penalized for inactivity in battle... so the "next battle" actually took place behind my back :)))

 

Well, that's it. Enough testing for me, today at least. Hope I gave you some usable data.

 

I also upload the latest log files, which probably contain the tech data of the literature above. Just in case. 🙂

Thanks you for all that details and extra checks. I have an answer for you.

 

The issue comes from certain v2 API mods - mostly from TTaro. These mods modify the game’s core components. If your connection to the server drops (due to poor internet, daily server reset, or staying AFK in port too long), the v2 mods get disabled. After reconnecting, the modified parts of the game remain in a broken state. The only way to fully restore functionality is to restart the game client, that always fixes the problem. Also, leaving the game running for that long isn't great for your electricity bill 😉
