PAJS Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 (edited) Ever since the new update, when Chat by AutoSpy/Roslich was removed from the mod pack (I was using this mod just fine prior to the 14.9 update), my in-game chat is now stuck on disabled, and I have no way of enabling it again. I checked the main game settings and chat is not disabled. But the in-game chat box will not work for me no matter what I try. My thought is I had chat turned off before the 14.9 update, and somehow that just stuck when Chat by Autospy/Roslich was removed? Is this a known issue? I don't see anyone else in forum mentioning this problem. Edited October 3, 2025 by PAJS Quote
Administrator Aslain Posted October 3, 2025 Administrator Posted October 3, 2025 Never heard of this problem. You may attach logs as in the post signature guide link. Does it happens often or rarely? Quote
PAJS Posted October 3, 2025 Author Posted October 3, 2025 chat has been disabled for me since 14.9 was released. I can see messages from other players, I just can't type anything. The chat box simply won't allow me to type and it says "Chat Disabled" I tried installing the TTaro Chat mod but that did not solve the problem. I guess my next step is to remove all mods and see if that works. Quote
Administrator Aslain Posted October 3, 2025 Administrator Posted October 3, 2025 It doesn't sound like a mods issue, always try without mods in case of such issue. Let me know if without the mods you also experience this. I know you said so, but show me your screenshot of this, this is mine: Ultimately try to reset the game settings (it will also reset mods settings), delete preferences.xml or temporary move away from its folder. PAJS Posted October 3, 2025 Author Posted October 3, 2025 Running it in safe mode did not fix the issue. Yes, on that screen it is set to ALL PLAYERS Very puzzling. Quote
Administrator Aslain Posted October 3, 2025 Administrator Posted October 3, 2025 Try to repair the game files and preferences.xml, if no help contact the game support. Quote
PAJS Posted October 3, 2025 Author Posted October 3, 2025 (edited) Here is one additional strange bit of information. I have two World of Warships accounts on the same PC. I have my main account on Steam and my alt account on the WGC client. I've been running your mod pack on both for years. I just checked my other account (which is a completely separate installation, obviously), and it also has the chat box disabled problem since update 14.9. Is it possible the Chat by Autospy/Roslich mod has locked my chat into disabled mode? Is there something in preferences.xml that I can check? I don't think this is a problem with the game itself since it is happening on both accounts that I have the exact same mods on? I've attached the log files _Aslains_Installer_CompList.log _Aslains_WoWs_Modpack_Exported_Settings.reg _Aslains_Installer.log python.log Edited October 3, 2025 by PAJS Quote
Administrator Aslain Posted October 3, 2025 Administrator Posted October 3, 2025 Mods save their settings to preferences.xml, but I don't know if they can lock it like that. Try to delete this file and see, you can keep it in a safe place if you want to restore later. Quote
Solution PAJS Posted October 3, 2025 Author Solution Posted October 3, 2025 I found the problem. There is a battle chat setting in the user_preferences.xml file and this was set to FALSE. Even though my in-game setting was set to ALL PLAYERS. Change it to TRUE fixed the problem. Quote
PAJS Posted October 3, 2025 Author Posted October 3, 2025 Also, once I changed that option to be TRUE, after running the game again, closing it, and checking the user_preferences.xml file again, that option was REMOVED. So it seems it is some sort of remnant from the Chat by Autospy/Roslich mod. I've attached screenshots of the user_preferences.xml file BEFORE and AFTER so you can see. Quote
Administrator Aslain Posted October 3, 2025 Administrator Posted October 3, 2025 I see, from what I know mods don't do anything in user_preferences.xml so maybe some old mods? Quote
