General DLC server bug reporting. (Downloading issues only, not for 404 errors)

Recommended Posts

If you have any issues with the DLC server please post them in this thread.

Please provide as much information as you can. (traceroute, speedtest)

For 404 errors please contact Aslain directly.

Current status:

2020-06-20: We have moved to a new hosting provider located in Falkenstein, Germany. Much more stable solution but long-distance routes seem to have less throughput.

There are no plans to use a global CDN. But we might add individual servers in locations with a really bad global connection.

old:

2020-09-29: small issue caused the DLC server to be offline for 2-3 hours. one-off event that we can easily prevent in the future.
2020-06-18: ISP seems to have locked up the webserver without communication.... currently investigating.
2020-06-19: Throttled all individual connections to 2MB/s, will look into more stable alternative solutions after this incident.

2020-05: IO issues currently, standby.

Above has been fixed. Moved to a better storage solution.

Slow download? first check if it's your own connection with a speedtest.

Some remote locations can have very slow download speeds due to the DLC server being centralised in Western Europe, feel free to post your country, speedtest result & download speed of the Aslain modpack if you have this issue.

Ongoing bug: People with VERY slow download speeds might run into interrupted download errors.

I have been an hour today trying to download the DLC files I have selected, same ones I have always had with this modpack getting so far and then restarting. Right now it's stuck on the hitskins. My internet speed it 6 MB/s and it gets about 30 MB into the download at around 1-2 MB/s then dives down to 4 KB/s for an extended period of time then ramps up to about 1-2 MB/s till it reaches about 100-200 MB downloaded then restarts

Damn that latency it's showing you getting. How frequently are you spiking to almost 1 second latency?

Nevermind, it's shown in the screenshots.

Hmm. Are you by any chance using a Western Digital external harddrive? (And thus, using their software, WD SmartWare?)

Every time I'm downloading the hitskins or any dlc that is over 100 MB

This is what it looks like without the hitskins or the 36 skins both files which are over 100 MB (500+ MB for the hit skins and 400+ MB for the 36 skins) Had 1 little spike over 1 second with little packet loss and some jitter but everything downloaded completely and only took probably 30 seconds for 75 MB of DLC files

I just added the milkyman tank skin pack and hit 2 seconds latency, that's all I added. You can see from the screenshots everything was going smoothly for the first little bit then everything took a shit during the transfer.

Seeing as your ping is increasing on other hosts as well during the download I can see that your router is not balancing the traffic correctly and giving too much priority to one of the two.

Using the Aslain installer won't give you correct feedback, just use wget next time you want to test it.

I still have no response from my ISP about the issue. From my current understand it's probably something related to the upstream keep-alive not working within nginx.

I can't help you fix that, try pinging any stable host (google.com) while maximizing your download/upload speed and see if your ping increases. If it does then you have a problem which I cannot fix for you. try this aswell: http://www.pingtest.net/

Combining that problem with nginx having a hard time keeping a connection alive might be the reason why you have more problems than the rest.

I can replicate the error very easily now so the fix should not be very far away.

So what can I do in the mean time to solve this problem from my end with those 2 mods that won't download for me? I have had little problem in the past with the hitskins but lately not as bad as yesterday and now, still can't get that or the milkyman skins to download period using the modpack and the gnu software thing you pointed me to I don't understand... or is this fix going to come soon?

It's a torrent file, use a torrent client to download it.

http://deluge-torrent.org

http://www.bittorrent.com/downloads

Or browser addons:

firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/torrent-tornado/

chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jstorrent/anhdpjpojoipgpmfanmedjghaligalgb

Make sure you only select the files you want to download, the torrent itself is 9,26GB and contains all DLC content.

im in the same position ,   cant download the files for  gunsounds   which r 45mb and the hitskins , yes they worked a few month back , but I can download from the  mods author source no problem

it doesn't bother me too much  as with every  update to the modppack   doing a dlc clean it means   I don't need to download the bigger files again as  the big files are in the  custom mods folder.  with update to modpack everyday and having  only 2 mb/s internet  it saves time .

I'm sure ttimon will get to the issue , but we know there is a gremlin somewhere
