Essential fatty acids are the good fats that your body needs to function properly, and the only way to get them is through your diet. The problem is though because of the way we have changed the way food is produced and cooked over the last 100 years or so then this is causing us to get too much of one type of essential fatty acid and not enough of others.The essential fatty acid we do not get enough of is omega 3. To make this a bit more confusing though there is two types of omega 3, the type you get from vegetable sources such as flax seed this fat is ALA and the type you get from oily fish such as wild salmon this type of omega 3 has two fats DHA and EPA. Of the two the one that we really need to increase the amount we consume is from oily fish.
