britzkrieg
Let me start by saying how much I like playing WoWS. I started late into the Beta by buying my command with a Sims. Not being the youngest kid on the block (more like the oldest), or a "Pinball Wizard" on the keys was not my style of play. I found the game needed more thought in planning ahead, more like a game of chess. Sure you could steam alone, full speed ahead down the centre of the map, and get blown out off the water PDQ. I tend to play the team game, with my DD, scout ahead of the flotilla and try not to get sunk. With my CC's I try to protect my BB's from sneak attacks by DD's and my CV's from AC's with Flak cover. Whilst in the "Flack" role I used to think, "Why are my AAA gunners so crap at shooting down AC's". Time to read up on secondary gunnery use, and then the penny dropped. If you don't tell your gunners what to shoot at, they'll just "scatter gun" the sky and get lucky shots. Now that I've found the CTRL point at target press LMB buttons, no CV under my watch has been sunk. On one occasion, my Cleveland gunners downed 15 planes. A lesson learned, read tactics first and be a credit to your team mates. 3 Quote Link to comment
Kahbrohn
+1 This also happened to me except I saw a video (almost the same thing though). In my next game in the Cleveland, I downed 32 aircraft... 23 of them in the first 3-4 minutes of play all while defending a CV. Quote Link to comment
britzkrieg
Well done. It looks like my gunners need to up their game to match your crew. I think most American CV's, once fully up spec'd, make excellent flak ships.. Edited May 6, 2016 by britzkrieg Quote Link to comment
BlueKQ
Unfortunately, it is hard to play as a team with a bunch of random strangers... hence the name Random Battle. 1 Quote Link to comment

I do have to agree. When I've elected to defend CV's against DD's and AC, I find that even though I've blown up to 27 AC out of the sky and sank opportunist DD's, my CV sinks nothing, and we're the last 2 afloat against 5 enemy ships. This has happened so many times, that I now sail as escort to the BB's and give them support against DD and AC, this seems to work better overall... Kreole
Control-Click answered a bunch of performance questions for me. Seems no matter how often I go looking for examples and play commentary, I ALWAYS learn something new. It's a shame all those ALWAYS have yet to add up to me being a decent player, but my love for the game keeps me coming back. I absolutely cannot wait for the lvl 5 control-click secondaries. Since I tend to specialize in BB's I can only imagine it is a slaughter. A lone DD who gets with 10km of a Yammy is snap-crackle-pop for sure. Sure wish the xp spread for captains gaining additional points wasn't quite so big after 10 or so. Edited May 11, 2016 by Kreole Can't type either! Quote Link to comment
SFC_Storm
It does many things. It 2x`s DPS on the plane/Group you select as well as force the gunners who are out of postion on 2nd battery to hold there fire till they have a shot on him. This means as the plane flys over it gets focued. Remember the waist gunners cannot shoot everything and if they blow there wad at a out of range group they dont fire at perfect range vs the target you wanted. ALso guys remember this as well for DD`s you want dead. WHiwlw you cant do the exact same thing, it will make your guys hold fire for that target. Quote Link to comment
