IDS Line

So i saw the other trees and what not, Noting the IDS arpeggio line.. I have the option to research them.. 

That does nothing right? I cant actually get the ships that way? ( aka/server side)

The Extended Tech Tree mod is allowing you to preview all ships in game, but not to research them.
