Palantyre Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 (edited) I once came across a Blood voice pack made by someone else, but I found it a bit lacking so I made a better one myself. I shared it with a couple friends but otherwise have just been using it for my own amusement. But looking at the list of voice mods in the mod pack installer, I thought "Eh, might as well have mine there, too". So now I'm making this post. DETAILS: - The mod is based on the old cult classic FPS, Blood. Most lines are from the protagonist Caleb, although some others are mixed in where appropriate (you can hear the crazy cultist enemies yelling where you die, and innocent civilians whining if you kill a friendly). The general feel is of dark, absurd humor but the voice is quite soft so it isn't abrasive. - Most everything has voice lines associated. Plenty of variation for hit- and kill lines. HE hits and splashes have their own lines. Every crew member death has its own line. Modules have their own lines, separate for going yellow or red where applicable, as well as getting repaired. Tracks taking yellow damage is silent because it happens ALL THE TIME. - All in all, most lines are at least vaguely appropriate to the event, although there are a few that are just lolrandom. Some little issues: - The voice lines are rather quiet, so it may be necessary to adjust the in-game volume sliders. If simply maxing out "voice messages" is not enough, turn the Master slider higher and everything else lower. - The delay between setting an enemy on fire and the associated line playing is a bit long. I can adjust this if it bothers people too much. I don't have a specific showcase video, but here are links to a few of my replays I made videos of where you can hear the mod in use: Note that the last one also features the "enemies spotted" voice lines which I have since disabled (or which don't work anymore, I can't remember tbh). Files attached! I have attached a .rar file with the needed files in this post, so everyone can try the pack out. Just follow the instructions in the readme.txt if you're unfamiliar with manually installing audio mods. Palantyre's Blood voice pack.rar Edited November 22, 2015 by Palantyre 1 Quote
Grandorf Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Hi Nice, very nice. Do you make any other mods or tweaks? Quote
Palantyre Posted November 22, 2015 Author Posted November 22, 2015 No, I don't really have the drive to be an active modder. I've had a few ideas for other voice packs, but so far this is the only one I've actually done anything about. Glad you like this one, though. :) Quote
The_Jimmy_Rustler Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Awesome mod :D Takes me back so many years to when I spent hours and hours playing the Blood games. Thank you :) How would you feel about making a Worms (another great childhood memory) voice pack? I've found one but it's only got 3 different tracks and that's just boring as hell. Also, it was released for 9.7 and abandoned. Quote
Palantyre Posted December 2, 2015 Author Posted December 2, 2015 (edited) Yeah, Blood was one of my favourites as well, the best Build engine shooter if you ask me (Just above Shadow Warrior, I never cared for Duke that much). I'm glad you like the mod, I'm really quite satisfied with it. :) As for your suggestion, I'm afraid I'm gonna pass on that. I really don't consider myself a modder, I'm just too lazy. Also, any crew voice mods will probably be totally obsolete after the upcoming 9.13 patch, because WG are changing the game's whole sound engine altogether. I really don't want to start making a mod that won't even work in a few weeks. Guess that makes this whole thread pretty moot, too. :/ I guess we'll just have to enjoy what we have while it lasts... Grandorf Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Hi As you might now every soundmod will become useless after next update. WG is changing sound engine from FMOD to Wwise. https://www.audiokinetic.com/products/wwise/ Quote
Palantyre Posted May 28, 2016 Author Posted May 28, 2016 (edited) Hello! I noticed that the modpack now again includes a Blood voice mod. The description text and preview are still from my old mod, and at first I got excited that someone has converted it to the new sound engine, but after a brief test it turns out to be a different one. The modpack release notes also mention it being from someone called Remmke. Now, I did some googlemancy and it appears Remmke hasn't used my old mod as a base or anything (I don't know if that's even feasible) as the voice lines used are shuffled around and he has also used lines from Blood 2. So I'm wondering if the modpack description is still what it is as a placeholder, or if it's a mixup or oversight of some sort. Or maybe just a case of "Eh, close enough"? Sorry to dredge up this old thread, but the "visit the mod's website" link in the installer also still points to this thread, so.... I just wanted to point out that no, the mod currently included in the modpack is actually not of my doing. Edited May 28, 2016 by Palantyre Quote
Administrator Aslain Posted June 4, 2016 Administrator Posted June 4, 2016 As far as I remember I found new mod somewhere on german EU forums, can't remember where now, but I didn't change anything else so it's pointing here, since I got nothing better If you want I can remove the link and info that it's made by you. Yeah, I think it would probably be for the best. Remmke's mod seemed to have a pretty different feel to it, so my old description and the audio preview are probably a bit misleading. I miss my mod, so maybe some day I'll look up how to make these things for the new engine and remake mine. That's a big "maybe" though. Quote
