Grandorf Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Hi Downloaded a conversation between WG-staff and a player. Some good links: http://ce.worldoftanks.com, and http://www.worldoftanks.com to the trusted sites for Internet Explorer. Please do this even if you never use Internet Explorer as your browser, as our client uses it. (If you get an error "Sites added to this zone must use the https: prefix", uncheck the "Require server verification for all sites in this zone" check-box at the bottom of the window, and try again.) Then please right click on your WoT icon, select "Properties", navigate to the security tab, and check the box for "Run as Administrator". Additionally, please make sure your antivirus software or firewall does not block the client connection with the server. During the first game start, make sure that you have added WorldOfTanks.exe and WOTLauncher.exe to your Firewall/Anti-Virus's exception/allowed lists. New proper links 1 Quote

guido22 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Disable all sound controllers that you don't use. Do this in device manager. Worked for me as I was having 2 to 3 CTD's a day. Have not had one since disbling unused. Quote
bart russell Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I think I might be the one that Grandorf is quoting a WoT response from. Attached is the trials and tribulations I went though ... maybe there is something there for you if are having CTDs, Freezing, etc., etc. FreezingScreen.txt Quote
Grandorf Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Hi Thought I should add some stuff. I still cant stress enough how important it is to keep your software up-to-date and unclogged from useless software and unnecessary applications running when you play WoT. Something that has become very frequent is Aslains modpack not installing correctly. #1 Antivirus, firewall et.c. Windows Defender gives more problems than it should, so disable it. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5918-windows-defender-turn-off-windows-10-a.html Windows might be too overprotective. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3577-user-account-control-uac-change-settings-windows-10-a.html Some good Antivirus programs: The great A's: AVG, Avira, Avast. http://filehippo.com/software/antimalware/ #2 Permissions Always run installer with <right click> Run As Administrator. Windows 10 should be activated and given proper account. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/getstarted-microsoft-account Get rid of more strange things in Windows 10. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/10antispy.html Small tweak to save time. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3841-take-ownership-add-context-menu-windows-10-a.html 1 Quote

Win 7 was also good. We have to realize that the world moves forward. Security, appllications, software, hardware et.c. et.c. Windows 10 is ok but you really need to bend it into submission. Show it who is the boss. 1 Quote

I bought myself Office 07 with the full install and unlimited copies in use. that is usually a $600+ program got it from M4 for $65. Same with Win 7. I bought 20 copies of Win 7 at the student price of $65. I have installed 19 of them at a massive profit. Win 8,8.1,10 all have this stubborn quirks. Instead of making OS's easier they made them more phone like. If I could take the time to port it all linux I would. Quote

Technically this would fall under piracy, EULA of the product discount states its for student use case hence the discount. Assuming you currently are not a student, you are violating the terms of agreement bla bla bla .. but yeah.. they cant check if everyone is using their licenses appropriately. As for windows from v7 becoming more phone like, this is to accomodate the masses of noobs that have difficulty using a windows pc. Finally with windows 10 they took a step back from this and looked at optimizing performance Sure, it will never be as trimmed and sleak as a linux/bsd pc but its also not their goal to support outdated tech. Each new version of windows is to help their partners ensure people upgrade to new hardware. Even apple does this by throttling back the performance of their hardware with each to guarantee the battery lifetime.. yeah right. Game makers do the same with their new games.. If you only want to play your 8bit game, which runs well on your 486 with 16m ram then yeah.. who needs upgrades. Also it generally is frowned upon to revive dead topics Edited March 25, 2019 by m0nstertr4x Quote
