Battlenat0r
Don't use any Texture or any game changing MODs etc until there is a clear list on what's legal to use! Remove any texture packs and other stuff that affect's core function of the game. Quote Hello, everyone!Allow us to shed some light on the situation with temporary bans applied yesterday. Some accounts that were using the ReShade software were subject to a ban yesterday. ReShade and the likes are mostly used to modify the visual content of the game, however, the root mechanics of such add-ons are very similar to some of the cheating mods & allow third parties to create malicious versions to inject into executable files & libraries. Unfortunately, this means, that while the intentions of most of our users are benign, the code can still be harmful. As of now all of ReShade users have been unbanned today and provided with compensation. As we are working constantly on improving the game client's protection for the sake of fair play, such mods as Reshade (in addition to the proven cheat ones) have caused some bans, and therefore will soon be prohibited. We understand that you might like the variety they bring, but the risks of the modified source code being used to cheat or even steal your accounts, far outweigh the rewards in this case. All of this means that we will soon issue an official statement, prohibiting its further use, as a part of our ongoing effort to protect the game client. We are continuously investigating many 3rd party software modifications which become popular within our player base to ensure that their use will not affect our players now or in future. At the same time, we’re improving our engine to let mod-makers do their job & improve their mods using native engine methods. As of right now, we ask that players remove ReShade and any similar mods to make sure you don’t receive any unwarranted bans or lose your account data to third parties.Regards, The World of Warships NA Publishing Team. https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/138894-message-from-the-na-publishing-team-regarding-the-recent-bans/ Quote Link to comment
Moderator Quaksen Posted October 4, 2017 Moderator Share Posted October 4, 2017 I seriously doubt a texture pack is going to do anything. Texture packs use the textures already in the game, and changes them. External program is something COMPLETELY different. Keep in mind that ReShade is an external program that hooks into the game, in the same way that external cheat programs does it. That's why WG NA fucked up and banned a lot of ReShade users. Administrator Aslain Posted October 4, 2017 Administrator Share Posted October 4, 2017 Indeed. It's more like 3rd party applications (like ReShade) that runs in background and changes the stuff related to video. Quote Link to comment
Battlenat0r
I have no idea really, if ReShade hooks then sure.. But I don't know what WG are planning to do, maybe they only allow basic MODs from now on. Hopefully they will give out a list of approved mods, including downscaled texture packs etc. At some point they will include texture packs, and if there is no proper information you might not get unbanned. xkoushik
only reshade? WG also said replay enabled or training room can also get players banned. Is the rest of the aslain's mods illegal as well? in fear i have removed all the mods :/ Quote Link to comment
Moderator Quaksen Posted October 4, 2017 Moderator Share Posted October 4, 2017 It's ONLY programs that hook into the game, such as ReShade that are affected. There's no such program in Aslain's modpack. Everything in Aslain's modpack is legal. As for the replays enabled and training room: https://www.reddit.com/r/WorldOfWarships/comments/743wu8/message_from_the_na_publishing_team_regarding_the/dnvcuib/ Quote Link to comment
Valdr
They use code injection to insert what they want into the game. Quote Link to comment
Moderator Quaksen Posted October 10, 2017 Moderator Share Posted October 10, 2017 Looks like ReShade will remain a bannable program to use: https://www.reddit.com/r/WorldOfWarships/comments/75gvo5/on_reshade_whitelisting/ Quote On Reshade "white-listing" (self.WorldOfWarships) submitted 40 minutes ago by Sub_Octavian - announcement Hello, guys. I've received several questions on white-listing Reshade - a tool that some of you like to use. Unfortunately, while it sounds like the best solution, it is not possible. There are two issues here: Open source code. The core mechanics: injecting into dynamic libraries. That means, that while we technically can tell whether reshade or some other code is being injected, we cannot guarantee that an abuser won't feed a custom dll to reshade, to achieve goals far from graphical customization. With our anti-cheat system evolving, people who don't want to play fair (unfortunately) will seek any loophole to exploit, including this one. We are absolutely not against graphical customization and other well-intended mods, but account security and fair play come first. I hope we're all on the same page here. As for the other modding questions, we will be updating and clarifying the rules, so official and detailed information will be delivered in the future. Cheers! Quote Link to comment
Biyah
Yea. It's not the end result that is being banned - it's the method of injection. That kind of injection is auto-flagged by whatever automated systems they use. Like all good apps and programs, a dirty few who use the same methods ruined it for others. Quote Link to comment
